COLOSSUS:THEFORBINPROJECTwasnotabighitattheboxofficeforvariousreasons.Oneisthatitscastwasntexactlywellknown.Anotherreasonisthatitsendingisntexactlyahappyone.StillathirdreasonisthatUniversalhadtroubletryingtopromoteitinthewakeofthehugesuccessofStanleyKubricks2001:ASPACEODYSSEY.Thelatterreasonisobvious:ColossusandGuardian,likeHALintheKubrickmovie,becomecentralcharactershere.ThedifferencehereisthatwhileHALmalfunctionsduetoaprogrammingconflict,ColossusandGuardianremainalltoostable,convincedbeyondadoubtthattheyknowhowtoprotectMankindbetterthanManhimself.Asthecomputerspointout:"OneinevitableruleisthatMankindishisownworstenemy." JosephSargentsdirectionisefficient,andthespecialeffectsworkofAlbertWhitlockstillmanagestoworkdespiteitsobviousage.Anoverlookedgeminthesci-figenre,thisshouldbegivenarevival.
